Action Figures, The First American Hero

I was five years old in 1964. While the 60's had much controversy, the Hassenfeld Brothers were busy brain storming an idea for a pose-able, dress-able new toy for boys. As this new toy emerged, accessories such as clothes and vehicles were designed to add excitement to this new idea. This toy would soon be a catalyst for more toys to come. From 1965 to 1977, new companies emerged and began making similar toys to compete with the Hassenfeld Brothers product. Now labeled "Action Figures", "Kenner" changed the industry when they produced the "Star Wars" line of toys and action figures. In comes the 80's with the introduction of TV characters from popular Kids television shows. Mattel toys introduces it’s "He-man and the Masters of the universe" line of action figures adding features like cap firing and swivel motion. From that point on, there wasn't a movie or TV show that didn’t have a toy figure or vehicle to represent its character. From "Transformers" to "Star Trek", from "Sesame Street" to "Cartoons" the industry had it covered. Today, as the popularity continues, "Sports Figures" from "Golf" to
"Auto Racing" can be found in every toy store or hobby shop. Political figures, sports figures, TV show hosts and just about anyone with a name that represents "Star" quality has been produced. You can even have an Action Figure custom made, that looks just like you! Yes, even you can be a star! So who were the Hassenfeld Brothers? These pioneers of the Action Figure craze? The company they started was Hasbro, and the first Action Figure was an American hero named "GI Joe"!
