Antique, Arts and Crafts Shows in Folsom, California

By Tony Lee

Many great public festivals happen year round here in the U.S. So many in fact, that they are too numerous to get to each and every one of them. Trust me, if I could, I would! Now I'm not talking about the State and County fairs that we all visit each year, I'm talking about the small town festivals where "Main Street" is closed to traffic and merchants from all over the country come and sell their goods. It's where musicians, both well known, and the not-so well known come to play. They come in many niches and share many names, most of historic origin that the city is known for. Let's take the Gilroy Garlic festival for example. Located in Gilroy, California, (South San Francisco Bay Area) the festival has become a world renowned event! In 1979, Gilroy held its first Gilroy Garlic Festival which featured fresh garlic in the many food booths and for sale in the form of braids and loose garlic. Believe it or not, they even offer Garlic Ice Cream!

What makes festivals of this nature so popular is the simple fact that they offer a friendly “small town” atmosphere that the entire family can enjoy. Whatever theme you enjoy, you can bet there is a festival fit for you.

Folsom, California, located just 30 minutes from the Capitol City of Sacramento, is well known for the part it played in the California Gold Rush of 1840’s and 1850’s. Located along beautiful Lake Natoma near the famous Rainbow Bridge, historic Folsom continues to draw visitors of all ages for a journey back in time. Rich with history, it also boasts its share of annual festivals and celebrations, such as the “Antique Peddlers’” and the “Holiday Arts and Crafts” festivals held in the Fall/Winter season. This year they both celebrate their 41st Anniversary as they continue to attract visitors, musicians and merchants from all over the country.

For Antique collectors, the Antique Peddlers’ festival can’t be beat. This year’s event will be held on September 21, 2008. Reflecting the history of Folsom, it offers many antique traders, antique sales, live entertainment, food, and more. Truly an event that antique collectors won’t want to miss.

Scheduled for December 6, 2008, is the “Holiday Arts and Crafts” festival. Filled with four city blocks of quality arts, crafts and gifts, it serves as a great way to kick off the Christmas Holiday season for the family.

Festivals are a safe and inexpensive way to celebrate local events that your city or town has to offer. Be sure to look in your local area for upcoming celebrations as well. With the holidays just around the corner, you’re almost sure to find one that your entire family will enjoy!
