Can this thing Really Swim?
By Tony Lee
For those of you who are Calamari lovers, you'll love this one. Personally, I like mine breaded and baked, with tarter sauce and a touch of tobasco. In fact, I'll always try to find a restaurant that serves Calamari as an appetizer. A good steak house for example, usually serves up Calamari as an appetizer on the menu! Yummy! Keeping that in mind, we all know that every so often we here about mother natures creations and some of the oddities she creates. Or are they oddities? I love reading stories about the "biggest" the "fastest" the "widest" the "deepest" creations of nature. Your probably asking your self what does breaded and baked Calamari have to do with natures oddities......well here ya go! On February 22, 2007 a bunch of New Zealand fishermen in the Ross Sea snagged a 900 pound, 30 foot squid. They hauled this thing in as it was munching on a Patagonian toothfish that the fishermen had hooked on. Talk about a hungry squid! Can you imagine bringing up a fish that you had hooked on and a giant squid still chewing on it! Perhaps this where all the tales of sailers who claim to have witnessed these giant squids at sea. Some claim to have watched ships swallowed up by these same creatures. Try to put that on an appetizer plate!
