Choosing Jewelry As A Gift
By Tony Lee
It won't be long until shopping malls fill with excited shoppers for the holidays! This year in fact, many stores have been offering price reductions for early shoppers due to such a sluggish economy. This might be your chance to shop for great deals on expensive items such as high priced Electronics and Jewelry. Jewelry items are always a popular gift during the holidays and make up a large portion of retailer profits. But what do you look for when buying jewelry for a loved one? Here are a few pointers on choosing the right jewelry item. For a guy like me, I find it best to choose an item that fits her clothing when buying a piece of jewelry for my wife. Knowing what the person's fashion tastes should be rule #1. One successful method I use when she's bought a new item of clothing is to take note of the style and color. In fact I've gone as far as having a picture taken of us when we are out to dinner wearing the outfit. Then I take the picture to the local jewelry store and get the opinions of the experts behind the counter. Not only are they helpful, but I get many great comments on my methodology. Many times they'll say "I wish my man would do something like that", or "what a thoughtful way to buy a gift!” Nevertheless, it works great and hasn't failed me yet! Hint: Women can use the same method when buying jewelry for a man! If this is a second gift for the same person, don't choose the same style. I've heard many comments from women complaining that their partner always chooses the same style of jewelry. Do some homework and shop around. We men enjoy a little variety as well and the best way not to duplicate a jewelry style is to take note of what you have previously bought the person. Gemstones might be one of the items that you will be shopping for. Precious stones can be expensive so shop around for the best prices. Semi-precious stones can be a better choice as they tend to be less pricey and still offer the quality of a great gift. As an added gift, a jewelry box with the item will enhance the gift and make in even more memorable. Jewelry boxes come in all shapes, sizes and are made of many types of materials. To enhance a jewelry box as a gift, I like to have it engraved with the date and event. A small polished brass plate engraved with this information can bring a smile to the recipient and works every time. Whatever you choose as a gift, a little homework comes in handy. A jewelry gift bought in haste will not deliver the same satisfaction as the one with a little planning. |
