Collecting Model RailRoad Trains

By Tony Lee

Collecting Model Railroad Trains can be a very rewarding hobby.

If you have ever paid a visit to a model railroad train hobby shop, you begin to appreciate the hard work and attention to detail that this hobby involves.

Not only do many dedicated modelers build their model railroad cars from scratch, but they also spend hundreds of hours constructing the railroad track layout as well. You might even consider this type of hobby an art, as model railroaders labor to re-create as much detail as possible. Some large scale layouts include scenic backdrops with sky, clouds and sunsets, model cities and towns with working lights, streetlights and storefronts, flowing streams and rivers, automobiles, model airports and much more!

One great layout in Greeley Colorado, scheduled to open in 2009, boasts 5,500 sq. foot HO gauge model railroad layout! This model railroaders dream also includes ten separate wiring systems, 20 plus scale miles of mainline track, hundreds of handmade buildings, thousands of hand made trees and the mother of all scenery displays. The layout will also include a wharf area featuring ships that actually operate, along with a model of the 729 foot ore carrier, Edmund Fitzgerald.

The attraction will also include vintage railroad artifacts such as signals, signs, keys, locks, photos, tools, towels, passes, timetables, lanterns and much more.

If your a serious model railroad collector or hobbyist, this might be an event you won't want to miss!
