Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento

Old Town Sacramento is always a great place to visit year round. But on Labor day weekend, it comes alive with the celebration of California Gold Rush History! To provide a realistic "old western look", the City of Sacramento paves the streets with over 200 tons of dirt. This festival of events turns back the clock, changing Old Sacramento into a scene from the 1850s. Many of the attractions and events include costumed re-enactors, musicians playing period instruments, and depicts many aspects of life during the California Gold Rush. One of the most noted attractions is the "Embarcadero Tent City". Located at the north end of Old Sacramento and replicates the first "tent city" that was built as the California Gold Rush began. The Embarcadero Tent City, provides the visitor an interactive atmosphere, where you can take part in the 1850s lifestyle. Many activities such as outdoor bowling, gambling games of chance, Tent Saloons, Butter churning and biscuit making, gold panning and much more! Many displays offer shopping for period clothing and unique handmade wares. You can tour the local bathhouse where the water wasn't changed until the tenth customer was finished! One of my favorites is the military history attraction. From Buffalo Soldiers to Civil War infantry groups, you can share in in a piece of history and view the parade grounds and see mounted military units and marching units. Old Sacramento definitely provides great family Labor Day weekend entertainment! |
