Having a Safe Halloween

It's that time of year again...the Holiday Season. It's the time of the year that merchants begin their Holiday ad campaign, by filling their shelves with Halloween decorations. Halloween is one of the most profitable, next to Christmas for retail companies. Decorations, costumes and party favors bring in big bucks for them. Many folks will tell you that they spend more at Halloween on costumes and parties, than they do at Christmas time. Halloween can be a safe celebration with just a little common sense. Trick-or-Treating:
-Make sure your kids are accompanied by at least one responsible adult.
-Buy a reflective costume with bright colors as opposed to dark materials.
-Instruct children not to eat any candy until a parent has had a chance to check its contents.
-Place reflective tape on candy bags and clothing.
-Ensure costumes and clothing are flame resistant
-Carry a flashlight and an extra set of batteries
-Attach emergency contact information to costume or candy bag
-Avoid neighborhoods with little or no lighting Attending Halloween events in public Places:
Perhaps you choose not to go out and "trick-or-treat" with your kids. There are many events that are held in place of this, such as schools or public city events. Check your local news or community center for scheduling. |
