Overcoming The fear Of Flying
By Tony Lee
If you are a victim suffering from aviatophobia, then you are one out of seven Americans that suffer from the fear of flying. To most travelers, flying is part of the job. Many business men and women must travel to attend meetings, conventions to keep their company successful. Vacation travelers could not do without air travel, especially when it comes to international flying. Those that suffer from the fear of flying eventually overcome it, either by traveling more or by coming to the realization that flying are safer than driving on the highway. The statistics prove that you are more likely to have an accident on the way to the airport than flying itself. If you enjoy playing the lottery, you'll be glad to know that chances are you'll hit all winning numbers before you ever end up in an airline crash. If these numbers don't convince you that flying is safe, here are some tips that might make your next flight a little easier. Sets your sights on an aisle seat. I myself love the window seat, because I love watching everything outside from takeoff to landing. But for those who fear flying, an aisle seat provides a bit larger space during the flight. Having a less claustrophobic environment, should provide a little increased comfort. Next, think about the importance of the visit you are making. You may be traveling with the family to Disney Land or taking your first vacation to Europe. The simple fact that without air travel, your experience would be impossible and you would miss out on a great opportunity. This motivating thought might help with your phobia. Fly with A Friend or Relative that flies frequently or is comfortable with flying. Your companion will be able to comfort and reassure you during the flight. If you can avoid it, never fly alone. Avoid alcoholic drinks or taking medications while flying. With the exception of prescribed and motion sickness medications, consuming alcohol or taking drugs to lesson the fear factor will only extend your fear. It's best to experience the safety of flying with a clear and sober mind. Take a portable audio or video device along as entertainment. Keeping your mind off of the flight can not only make the time pass by faster, but it can also build confidence about flying. Once you begin to see that flying is simply a fantastic way to travel, you'll appreciate it much more and feel safer with each flight you take. Avoid Sitting the Entire Flight Try not to stay seated the duration of your trip. Not only does it help your circulation, but it reduces the feeling of being cramped up and claustrophobia. It also gives you an opportunity to strike up a short conversation with another passenger or flight attendant. What better way to make the time go faster! Flight is a great technological gift that we all share. Once you learn to overcome the fear of flying, you'll begin to look forward to each flight you take. |
