Pictures can't describe The Grand Canyon National Park
By Tony Lee
As a novice photographer, I found that one of the most grand and picturesque places to take pictures of, is the Grand Canyon National Park. For photographers around the world it is one of the most popular locations. In the summer of 2003, my family and I had the opportunity to visit this magnificent "photographers dream". Although the Grand Canyon it quite a drive to get to, I couldn't wait to arrive and take advantage of the breath taking view that it offers. As we traveled from St George, Utah, I could only imagine from the pictures I saw of the Grand Canyon that we were in for the experience of a lifetime. Our first stop was the North Rim, and in my opinion the most spectacular. As you approach the tourist parking lot, you begin to get glimpses of the canyon off to the left through the trees. I couldn't wait to get the car parked and witness one of mother natures finest works of art! Our first view of the canyon could not be put into words and I wondered how I could describe our experience to our friends and relatives. If you've never seen the canyon and the beauty it has to offer, it's simply indescribable. As your eyes try to focus on the depth and width of the canyon, it almost appears as if you are looking at a picture. It took me a few minutes to adjust and understand that what I was looking was in fact real. As I stared across the vastness of the canyon, I noticed the complete "silence" that played with my senses. As we stood in complete awe, we could hear the gasps and sighs of other tourists as they too, saw the canyon for the first time. I remember turning to complete strangers and exchanging smiles as we all realized that we were sharing one of mother natures greatest paintings, first hand. This great wonder of the world is a "must see". Its grandeur and beauty still remain in my mind, one experience that I will never forget. Although I took many pictures that day, it came to me that my photos alone would not tell the complete story. No artist or painter could duplicate what Gods hand had created. I quietly thanked Him and smiled for giving me one of the best picture taking opportunities of my lifetime. I'm quite sure He was smiling with me. |
