Ride the Napa Valley Wine Train!
By Tony Lee
The Napa Valley Wine Train As a California native, I've had an opportunity to visit our states natural wonders such as Yosemite National Park, tourist attractions in the city of San Fransisco and its history, the wonderful beaches on the coast, the giant California redwood trees, and the beauty of the southern California Desert and Joshua trees to mention a few. California wine is known world over for its taste and quality. And nothing can introduce the traveling tourist to its uniqueness better than the "The Napa Valley California Wine Train Tour". The Wappo Indians, who first broke ground in the Valley, labeled it "Napa" which translated simply means, "The Land of Plenty. California has an abundance of wild life where ever you may go, and Napa Valley is no exception. Whether it's the streams filled salmon or it's wildcats, elk and grizzly bears, wildlife roams the valley. Settlers first discovered the Napa Valley in 1836 and founded the town Yountville, named after George Calvert Yount. Yount, who was the first to plant vineyards, discovered the valley's wild grapes and it's potential. From that point on, many followed Yount and continued to plant vineyards and expand the Valley and make it what it is today! One of the best ways to sit back and relax and enjoy the scenery, is aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train.! Each tour begins at the Wine Train depot with an informal wine tasting event. After the event, each couple or group is afforded a picture taking opportunity next to the Wine Train as it awaits its passengers. Once you board the Wine Train, you'll depart the city of Napa and enjoy a 3-hour ride, traveling 36-miles as it winds past the world's most famous wine vineyards. You will make the halfway point of your journey and arrive at St. Helena, and prepare for the return trip back to Napa. Along the way you'll enjoy a delicious gourmet lunch or dinner, depending on the time you take your trip. Each meal is served in a graciously restored vintage 1915-1947 Pullman Dining car. Each car has been finely detailed with hand-rubbed Honduran Mahogany, polished brass, and grape-motif etched glass. Your Wine Train Experience ends with dessert and coffee/tea, as it winds past the vineyards on its return to the Napa depot. The Napa Valley Wine Train is an experience you cannot miss! It caters to a variety of customers, couples, families or even large groups. Dress well, as you will be treated like a king or queen during the journey from start to finish. |
