The History of Beanie Babies
By Tony Lee
The History of Beanie Babies They were first introduced at The World Toy Fair in 1993, by a company called Ty Warner. What made Beanie babies different from other stuffed animals were the PVC pellets. This replaced the traditional soft stuffing material used in other stuffed animals. Another feature that made Beanie babies different from other toys, were the "tags" which had the Ty logo on the front and the animal's name and style on the back. As the market for Beanie Babies grew, the tag changed from its original look, to a Locket style tag with poems on the back. Another unique feature of Beanie Babies were the white "tush tags" with black lettering. The market for Beanie Babies and its popularity continued to grow, and four other versions of the toy were introduced, Beanie Buddies, Beanie Kids, Beanie Boppers and Teanie Beanies. Beanie Babies aren't just for kids. Many Beanie Babies and styles have turned into collectors items. Many adults have turned the Beanie Baby craze into a hobby. It's not unusual for a collector to pay hundreds of dollars for a rare and unique Beanie baby, based on the number made and style. |
