Tips on Purchasing a Home Theater Entertainment Center

By Tony Lee

What is a Home Theater System?

Buying a "Home Theater in a Box" system makes it easier for the novice customer to purchase matching speakers and audio components to include instructions for easy setup. With todays systems, everything is supplied to quickly setup and operate a great Home Audio system in almost minutes! Prices on these systems vary greatly depending on features ,complexity and brand. Chances are you may prefer a certain manufacturer, and may want use it as a starting point for your speaker search.

Do some research before you buy

Check out websites that offer Home Theater System reviews. The best investment you can make when buying a system is spending some time researching "editor" and "user reviews". I've found that users can be very candid and descriptive when commenting on a system they have purchased. Discovering the "Pros and Cons" of a product can be very helpful when deciding on a system.

One other source I've found valuable are electronics "forums". Many forum sites are popping up on just about any subject you can think of. I recommend finding an active forum and joining in on the discussions. Not only can you get more users reviews, but you can also participate and ask questions about a particular audio product that you may have in mind. The best thing is almost all of these discussion boards are free!

Planning the location

Although many Home Theater Systems are fairly compact, some high end systems can be fairly large. Check the space you plan on locating your system. One mistake many buyers make is not pre -planning the location of the system that the components use. In addition to space, check to see that electrical connections are adequate to power your unit. Never attempt to over load wall power outlets by adding excessive power strips to power your audio and video components. If needed, relocate some of the other electrical devices to help solve power problems.

Shopping for the System

Shop in person at the local dealer to sample the sound of the system. Large Electronic Dealers now have special rooms that duplicate the home acoustics of a customers living room or bedroom. Listen carefully to the speakers when you shop. The typical home system has six speakers that make up the ideal home theater and are as follows: left and right front-channel speakers, left and right surround speakers, a subwoofer, and a center-channel speaker. Most important is the center-channel speaker, as most movie dialogue comes from it. Taking the time to listen to the system in this environment can be the most valuable experience you can have. Don't be a spur of the moment shopper when buying a home Theater System. The time and effort that you make in choosing a system can be rewarding your years to come.
